fyi… i think the green one is the m&m… but it’s a tough call
The Party of Make America Mean Again can’t stop stamping out joy, love, compassion or common sense anywhere they find them.
First they came for Mickey, and now for candy with sensible shoes….
“America First Legal, the legal activist group founded by former Trump adviser Stephen Miller, on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Mars Inc., the maker of M&M’s. The pro-Trump nonprofit alleges Mars’ efforts to increase diversity and representation of minorities within its workforce constitutes discrimination and a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The move comes just days after Fox News fired its former prime-time host and sexy-M&M devotee Tucker Carlson. Carlson famously feuded with Mars after it swapped out the green M&M’s go-go boots for professional attire it called “current” and “representative of our consumer.” In a televised rant, the former Fox host moaned that the green candy is “no longer wearing sexy boots, now she’s wearing sensible sneakers,” and lamented that “when you’re totally turned off, we’ve achieved equity, they’ve won.”
The group has also filed a complaint against diversity efforts by private-equity giant BlackRock for its “BlackRock Founders Scholarship,” which aims to provide internships to members of underrepresented minority groups. The complaint claims the internship program violates federal civil rights rules.
BlackRock recently became a culture-war target after Florida governor and presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis pulled billions of dollars of Florida state money out of the company over its policies that take into account the environmental, social, and governance impact of its investments. How dare a private company make its own business decisions? That’s what republican governance is for.
Looks like deSantis is learning it’s a bad idea to go to war on one of America’s most cherished cultural giants. Especially when the people who probably cherish it most are conservatives.
“Whispers are growing louder among Republicans that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has miscalculated in his battle with Disney — a struggle that has already gone on for more than a year and has no end in sight. The latest twist in the long-running DeSantis-Disney saga came on Wednesday when the corporation sued DeSantis in federal court in Florida.
The company’s filing alleged “a targeted campaign of government retaliation” that it said had been “orchestrated” by DeSantis. The campaign, Disney contended, “threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights.”
Earlier this month, DeSantis went even further, suggesting the state might build a prison near Disney’s theme parks, presumably as a means of exacting retribution.
Worryingly for the Florida governor — independents broke heavily against him on that question, contributing to strong sympathy for Disney among the population at large.
In potentially even worse news for DeSantis, majorities of Democrats, Republicans and independents said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who “supports or passes laws designed to punish a company for its political, social or cultural stances.”
Another eating-their-own dynamic at work …...
“The South Carolina state Senate rejected a near-total abortion ban on Thursday, after the chamber’s five female lawmakers led a multiday filibuster against the bill.
Three Republicans, a Democrat and an Independent joined together block the legislation, which sought to ban abortion from conception with only exceptions for rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother.
“The only thing that we can do when you all, you men in the chamber, metaphorically keep slapping women by raising abortion again and again and again, is for us to slap you back with our words,” Republican state Sen. Sandy Senn said, according to The Associated Press.”
As the MAGOP turns increasisngly hostile to womem, minorities, sanity, decency and anyone who isn’r a rich white fundie fanatic, they increasingly celebrate murderers, rapists and the violently insane and degenerate. You know I’m not exaggerating. It’s a death cult.
“A woman who served time in prison for her involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection embraced former President Trump at a campaign rally in New Hampshire on Thursday before later saying that former Vice President Mike Pence and “every single” member of Congress who certified the 2020 election should be executed.
After QAnon supporter Micki Larson-Olson was pointed out to Trump as a “Jan. 6-er” by the crowd at a packed diner, Trump sought her out, calling her “terrific,” telling her to “hang in there” and giving her a hug, video shows.
Larson-Olson said in an NBC News interview the next day that Trump is the “real president” and that she “would like a front seat of Mike Pence being executed.”
“The punishment for treason is death, per the Constitution,” Larson-Olson said. “I believe every single person, every single person that stole a voice from our collective voice of ‘We the people, of the people, for the people, by the people,’ deserves death, and no less than that.”
Personally, I think the insurrectionists are the ones guilty of treason, how about you?
